We currently have 5 senior teams in the Western Province Cricket Association who play in the following leagues:
1st Team – First Division B
2nd Team – Reserve C
3rd Team – Reserve E
4th Team – Third Division A
5th Team – Third Division A
6th Team – Third Division C
We currently do not have the resources to host an overseas player, however should we get financial backing we might consider it.
Our ground is on the corner of Wetton Road and Rosemead Avenue, Wynberg. Please visit our Contact Us for more information.
The club plans to keep improving first team and hopefully move up the divisions. We would also like our second XI to earn promotion, and in turn close the gap between the 1st and 2nd X1 playing divisions. The ground at Wynberg Cricket Club is undergoing continuous improvement, with clubhouse improvements the next project on the agenda.
Yes, we have two annual events where the whole family is welcome, The annual Memorial Day and annual Six-a-Side Tournament. These days include entertainment for the kids, braais and maybe a few drinks. Family is also welcome at our annual awards night at the end of each season.
Yes, anyone who comes to watch our games will be made most welcome. A few ex-players and players’ families normally watch matches at Wynberg Cricket Club so there will always be some chat on offer. You don’t need to be a player to be part of our club, social members are very welcome.
All matches are played on Saturdays. The average finish time for a league match is 6:30pm. League matches may occasionally be switched to Sundays when some fixtures can not be fulfilled. There are also some Sunday friendlies arranged during the season.
Players should purchase their own whites and spikes. If you cannot afford your own cricket equipment our members will be more than willing to borrow theirs.
At the moment Wynberg Cricket Club does not have a female team, however as part of the growth plans for the club we wish to start one. Please feel free to contact us for further information.
Official umpires are provided for the 1st division fixtures where our 1st team plays. For the rest of our teams the batting team umpires their own innings. Every now and then there may be a little controversy, but most of the time the match is umpired in a fair and impartial manner. Any Wynberg Cricket Club player who is asked to umpire during a match is left to judge any appeal as they see fit, in line with the rules of cricket. There will never be any pressure to be lenient towards their own batsman, and no Wynberg Cricket Club player shall question their decision. All players are expected to umpire (most teams let players take 10 overs each), but you won’t be thrown into the deep end in a league match until you are comfortable with doing so! The club committee does not condone dissent towards opposition players or umpires, and any player doing so may have to appear in font of the club and local leagues disciplinary committee.
You can either contact us or just come along to one of our scheduled training sessions. Alternative you may email ricky@wynbergcricketclub and he will send you the relevant forms.
Any Age!!! Wynberg Cricket Club cricketers come from a variety of age groups from 13 to 60+! So whether you are a junior of primary school or in the more ‘experienced’ age range you will be made welcome.
People of all abilities are welcome to join the club, even if you are taking up the game for the first time. Plenty of experienced players are available for coaching.

Outdoor training starts in October and takes place at Wynberg Cricket Club on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30pm to 7:30pm weather and light permitting. Members are also welcome to use our training facilities at any point during the week. Junior training sessions are on Fridays from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.
Everyone participates in some fielding practice and take turns at batting or bowling in the nets, with occasional simulated games. You are welcome to come to training regardless of your ability and past experience. Experienced players, and those with coaching qualifications, are always available to coach on various aspects of the game.
Yourself! If you do not have your own bat and pads you will be provided with them by the club or members. 1st and 2nd XI need to wear a white (collar) T-shirts and any blue or black shorts or tracksuit pants unless the club has provided training kit. All other teams are free to wear whatever they feel comfortable training in. Spikes would be advised to avoid injuries due to slipping.
For the 1st and 2nd XI teams net attendance is important as it is easier for the selection committee and captain to select players they can view at training. Not everyone can manage training every single week, but players are encouraged to attend at least one session per week when possible. If you can not attend training but wish to play in a match the following weekend, please inform the team captain beforehand as team selection takes place on Thursdays after training.
The club endeavours to keep all of its playing members involved, whether in friendlies or league games. In the latter, selection is based purely on the best XI available, and friendlies are aimed at ensuring fringe players and newcomers get to play. All teams are selected on Thursdays. It is the responsibility of players to declare their availabiity for a match. Selection priority goes to paid members.
If you are interested in either coming to Wynberg Cricket Club or hosting us for a Sunday or Midweek game during the season, contact us via the link on the menu. We are currently looking for pre-season friendlies in September preferably away as Wynberg St Johns uses the fields for Soccer.
